I find what Nostradamus did both honorable and slightly foolish to an extent. I think that him putting others first and himself last was a great act of selflessness, and true altruism. Heck, I do it all the time. Sometimes to the point where I forget that I have needs also, even though I might not like to admit it. That is the point where I disagree with these acts of true selflessness, even though it may sound hypocritical.
Even though it's difficult for me to personally admit this, I have come to establish a belief in myself that I should always put myself last. Like I've said previously in earlier posts, everything is put on a spectrum, and everything has its extremes. This happens to be one of mine, as it seems to have been Nostradamus's as well. This can be a cause of many things. Maybe the person is truly selfless out of belief that they must help people always and whenever they can, or it can be something deeper, where they feel like they are so unimportant that they would go to great measures to always put themselves last. Yes, we are luckier than many people out there in this world, which means that we should be grateful for anything and everything we have. But we need to remember, everyone of us is important, and worth so much. It's one thing to share a snack, or even give it away to someone who hasn't eaten yet, but keep in mind that sometime during that day, you need to eat too. There's a difference between putting others first, and completely throwing yourself to the curb.
I know this may have come out a little harsh, but it was totally meant in a caring, non-harsh way, for lack of better words. Have you ever experienced these events, or seen them destroy another person, or have a different effect?
